The NH Fish and Game Department are asking citizens to report wild turkey sightings, they announce via press release.
This initiative, named the 2020 Wild Winter Turkey Flock Survey, runs from January 1, 2020 to March 31.
The release states that, “The purpose of this online survey is to enhance New Hampshire Fish and Game’s existing winter flock data collection efforts, adding to the Department’s understanding of the abundance and distribution of turkeys during New Hampshire’s challenging winter months. This is also an exciting way for citizen scientists to interact with their local turkey populations.”
The online survey asks for number of turkeys in flock, where they were seen, type of habitat, and what they were eating. Last year, the NH Fish and Game received 486 flock reports, for a total of 9833 turkeys.
