Traffic Stop Becomes Wild Chase

A traffic stop to arrest two men on warrant turned into a chase across multiple towns, reports the NH State Police Troop C.

On Friday, January 10, 2020, troopers pulled over a vehicle containing two citizens with active warrants; Jennifer Ritchie, 37, and James Crawford, 32, both of Alstead. Richie was quietly taken into custody while Crawford attempted to evade police on foot.

Crawford ran through a river and into the woods prompting a search not only on foot, but from K9 units, and helicopter support. Alstead, East Alstead, and Acworth were all searched and local schools were notified. At approximately 2:30 PM, a man matching Crawford’s description was seen in East Alstead. He was then apprehended.

Ritchie has been charged with; Endangering Welfare of a Child, Tampering with Witness, Hindering Apprehension, Operation After Suspension, and Operating with a Suspended MV License. Crawford has been charged with; First Degree Assault, Tampering with Witness (2 Counts), Second Degree Assault (2 Counts), Aggravated Sexual Assault (2 Counts), Incest (2 Counts), Falsifying Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Violation of Probation.

Both will be arraigned in Cheshire County Superior Court on January 13.
