According to New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, a statewide severe drought law is on the horizon, reports the Associated Press.
On Wednesday, Sununu requested that the Executive Council prepare to vote over the phone on an emergency law that would prohibit outdoor fires near public woodlands. The aim of this new law is to prevent forest fires in the state.
Due to NH’s lack of substantial rainfall in weeks, some private wells have dried up, and water bans on lawns and car washing have been implemented.
According to Sununu, the state is currently looking to ban, “kindling of any open fires and smokers and smoking near woodlands.”
