Warner Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault, Voter Fraud

The Warner, New Hampshire man who was arrested in June 2020 on charges of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, sexual assault, and voter fraud has plead guilty, according to the Associated Press.

In January, multiple warrants for the arrest of Douglas Carl Smith, 31, of Warner were issued. Then, in June, Smith was apprehended by US Marshals in Vermont. On Wednesday, the NH Attorney General’s Office announced a negotiated plea agreement which addresses the charges brought by its office, the Sullivan County AG’s Office, and the Merrimack County AG’s Office.

Smith was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison for the aggravated felonious sexual assault charge, with other sentences running concurrently or suspended.

Also, Smith pleaded guilty to voter fraud connected to the Danbury and Grafton 2018 town elections.
