On Thursday, New Hampshire health officials announced a single-day record of 625 new COVID-19 cases, according to new data from the Department of Health and Human Services.
These new cases bring NH’s total since March to 22,957. 4,342 of these are now considered to be active. Also announced on Thursday were seven new deaths linked to the virus, bringing the total number of deaths connected to COVID-19 to 544.
According to State Epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan, in a typical year 40-50 NH residents perish from the flu. Updated data shows that COVID-19 has been at least 10 times more deadly.
Dr. Chan also announced seven new outbreaks in long-term care facilities, one of which is at Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hanover, NH.
At the same press conference, Governor Chris Sununu stated that, “We will likely be in this surge for at least the next few weeks.”
