2020 VT Deer Hunting Season Deemed a Success

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife has labeled the 2020 deer hunting season as a success.

According to the Associated Press, officials estimate that hunters took in 18,000 deer. This makes for the highest total since 2000.

Archery season saw a record 5,800 deer harvested by hunters in VT.

The report states that hunters were less successful during the firearm and muzzleloader seasons, but that the final total is expected to meet or surpass the 10-year average.

While rule changes likely played a role in the increase in deer harvested, officials also believe that hunting spiked due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
