Bradford Man Facing Aggravated Sexual Assault Charges

A Bradford, New Hampshire man was arrested on Monday following a New Hampshire State Police investigation into an alleged sexual assault.

According to a press release, the NH State Police launched an investigation into the allegation during the week of January 17th. On Monday, February 1st, troopers from Troop D arrested 51-year-old Russell R. Steiz of Bradford in connection to the investigation.

Steiz has been charged with Aggravated Felonious Sexual Assault. He was released from custody on personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned on this charge at a later date.

Rockingham, Vermont Woman in Custody Following Violent Altercation on Monday Night

A Rockingham, Vermont woman is in custody following violence incident on Monday, reports the Vermont State Police-Westminster Barracks.

According to the release, at approximately 11 PM on Monday, February 1st, the VSP were notified of a physical altercation at a home on Rounds Road in Rockingham.

Upon arriving at the scene, troopers conducted an initial investigation that discovered that 41-year-old Deborah Simondeau had assaulted multiple members of the home. Simondeau also proceeded to assault one of the officers when they attempted to arrest her.

She was apprehended and lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility on $2,000 bail. She faces charges of Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult, Assault on Law Enforcement, Cruelty to a Child, and Domestic Assault. 

Vermont State Police Investigating Theft in Westminster

The Vermont State Police-Westminster Barracks are seeking information regarding a theft in Westminster.

According to a press release, the theft occurred between the dates of Friday, January 29th and Monday, February 1st at 7668 US Route 5 in Westminster. The item stolen was a GPS unit located inside a tractor trailer unit at an industrial park.

The individual who stole the item is wanted for theft and unlawful mischief.

Massachusetts Man Injured in Goshen Snowmobile Accident

A Massachusetts man sustained serious injuries due to a snowmobile crash Saturday in Goshen, reports the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

At approximately 5 PM on January 30th, the NH Fish and Game Department was notified of a single-snowmobile crash on Goshen’s Trail Six. A Conservation Officer, along with members of the Goshen, Lempster, and Newport fire departments arrived on the scene soon after.

It was discovered that the operator, 64-year-old Ernest Hermanson of Holland, MA, was the second of three riders in a group. Hermanson failed to negotiate a turn on an uphill portion of the trail.His snowmobile traveled wide to the right side of the trail before striking a tree. He was then thrown forward off the snowmobile.

Hermanson was found and assisted by passerby, who kept him warm with extra clothing and a fire while awaiting rescue personnel. Rescue personnel placed him in a litter and he was transported to the nearest roadway.

From there, he was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon to be treated for a serious, but non-life threatening leg injury. 

Dartmouth College Reinstating Five Sports

Dartmouth College in Hanover has announced the reinstatement of five sports that were eliminated last summer, reports WCAX.

In July 2020, Dartmouth announced that it was eliminating men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s lightweight rowing. At the time, they stated they were doing so to address a $150 million financial deficit due to COVID-19, and to allow them more flexibility in admissions.

On Friday, the school released a joint statement with the members of the five teams as part of a resolution following threatened legal action.

Reportedly, an external review of the athletic department’s governance, policies, and practices will be conducted after garnering accusations of not offering equal intercollegiate participation opportunities for women. 

Royalton Man Arrested Following Domestic Assault

A Royalton man was arrested Friday following a domestic assault, reports the Vermont State Police-Royalton Barracks.

According to the release, on Thursday, January 28th, at approximately 10:30 PM, troopers responded to a report of a disturbance in Royalton. Upon arriving at the residence, it was discovered that a domestic assault had occurred. 35-year-old Joshua Demar, the offender, was not found on Thursday night. He was located on Friday, January 29th.

He was arrested and released on conditions to appear in VT Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division on January 29th at 12:30 PM to answer to the charge of Aggravated Domestic Assault. 

Police Investigating Disappearance of Cavendish, Vermont Teen

The Vermont State Police-Westminster Barracks are seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a missing person.

According to their report, at approximately 1:PM on Saturday, January 30th, the VSP-Westminster Barracks launched an investigation into a missing Cavendish teen, 16-year-old Allyssa Norman. Norman reportedly ran away from a residential facility in Cavendish.

She is described as standing approximately 5’3″, weighing 105 pounds, and currently having red and purple, shoulder length hair. When last seen, she was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and black converse shoes.

Randolph, Vermont Seventh-Graders Moved to Remote Learning

Seventh-graders in Randolph, Vermont will be learning remotely following a positive COVID-19 case in the school, reports WCAX.

Reportedly, Orange Southwest School District Superintendent Layne Millington stated that a student in the seventh-grade of Randolph Union Middle/High School has tested positive for COVID-19. According to school officials, contact tracing has been completed, and all parents and students that need to quarantine have been notified.

To be cautious, all seventh-grade students will move to remote learning until Tuesday of next week. All athletics at the school will also be put on hold until next Tuesday. 

Ludlow Man Charged with Attempted Sexual Assault

A Ludlow, Vermont man has been arrested for Attempted Felonious Sexual Assault, as well as other charges, reports the Lebanon, New Hampshire Police Department.

According to a press release, the Lebanon Police Cyber Crimes Unit had been conducting an investigation over social media targeting individuals who are looking to victimize children. As part of the investigation, officers engaged in a conversation with a male who later arrived at a location, on January 27th, seeking to meet an individual he thought to be a juvenile. He was arrested and identified as 35-year-old Michael Stratman of Ludlow.

Stratman was charged with Certain Uses of Computer Services Prohibited, Attempted Felonious Sexual Assault, and Attempted Endangering Welfare of a Child, all classified as Class B Felonies.

He was held in preventative detention to be arraigned in Grafton County Superior Court on January 28th. 

Police Investigating Trailer Theft in Cavendish, Vermont

The Vermont State Police-Westminster Barracks are investigating a theft in Cavendish, according to a press release.

Reportedly, on January 27th, VSP received a report of a theft from a residence on Twenty Mile Stream Road in Cavendish. The item stolen has been identified as a 2018 Nitro Hybrid, a white, fully enclosed, single-axle snowmobile trailer. The trailer had a Connecticut license plate “AF56671”.

At this time, authorities believe that the suspect who stole the trailer will be driving an older model Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
