Single-Car Accident in Danbury Kills Driver

A motor vehicle accident on Monday afternoon in Danbury, New Hampshire proved to be fatal for one of the drivers involved, report the NH State Police.

According to a press release, at approximately 3 PM on January 4th, 2021, the state police received a report of a single-vehicle crash at 317 Eastern District Road in Danbury. An initial investigation yielded that the vehicle had been traveling northbound on Eastern District Road when it veered right and off the road. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway, hit a guardrail, and then struck a patch of trees.

The operator, who was not wearing their seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. As a result of the injuries sustained, 43-year-old Kevin Ramsey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car’s passenger, 36-year-old Sarah Westland, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of impact. She was transported to a medical facility in Franklin to be evaluated for possible minor injuries.

Reportedly, a portion of the roadway had to be closed while police conducted their investigation.

Hartford Man Arrested on Embezzlement Charges

A Hartford, Vermont man has been arrested and charged with Embezzlement after allegedly stealing upwards of $10,000 from the Reading Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.

According to a press release from the VT State Police-Westminster Barracks, authorities were notified on November 6th, 2020, by an attorney representing the Reading PTO, that funds were missing from the group’s checking account.

An investigation into the claim found that the PTO’s former treasurer, 37-year-old Wade Mullins, had embezzled funds from the account from 2014 to 2020. Evidence suggests that at least $10,000 were misappropriated from the account.

Mullins was apprehended and processed on embezzlement charges on January 4th, 2021.

He was then cited to appear in Windsor County Superior Court, Criminal Division on February 23rd at 1 PM. 

2020 VT Deer Hunting Season Deemed a Success

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife has labeled the 2020 deer hunting season as a success.

According to the Associated Press, officials estimate that hunters took in 18,000 deer. This makes for the highest total since 2000.

Archery season saw a record 5,800 deer harvested by hunters in VT.

The report states that hunters were less successful during the firearm and muzzleloader seasons, but that the final total is expected to meet or surpass the 10-year average.

While rule changes likely played a role in the increase in deer harvested, officials also believe that hunting spiked due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Lebanon Fire and Police Departments Team to Sponsor American Red Cross Blood Drive

In a press release, the Lebanon Fire and Police Departments have announced the date for an upcoming American Red Cross Blood Drive.

From 12 PM to 5 PM on Thursday, January 28th, the American Red Cross, sponsored by the Lebanon Fire and Police Departments, will be holding the drive at The Courtyard Marriott.

While all blood types are welcome to meet hospital demands and needs, Type O blood is in extremely high demand. If you are a Type O donor, the release encourages you to also donate power red cells.

Townshend Woman Facing Multiple Charges After Robbing Family Member’s Residence

A Townshend, Vermont woman was arrested on multiple charges following a string of misdoings on New Years Day, reports the VT State Police-Westminster Barracks.

According to the press release, the Westminster Barracks received a complaint at approximately 8:11 PM on January 1st, 2021, regarding an alleged burglary at a home on Stephenson Curve in Townshend.

An investigation into the incident discovered that Sarah Peck, 36, had unlawfully entered the home of a family member, stole several valuables, and then operated the homeowner’s motor vehicle without permission. Peck was later located by authorities at her residence on Route 30 in Townshend. She was then taken into custody, and the stolen property was located.

Peck was processed and released with a criminal citation to appear in Windham County Court on February 23rd at 11 AM to answer to these charges; Burglary, Grand Larceny, Operating Without Owner’s Consent, and Possession of Stolen Property. .

Motor Vehicle Accident Leads to Arrest of Wanted Man

Troopers from the Vermont State Police-Royalton Barracks were able to apprehend a wanted man following a motor vehicle accident in Sharon.

According to a press release, on January 2nd, 2021, at approximately 11 AM, troopers were dispatched to a single-car accident on Fay Brook Road in Sharon. Upon arrival at the scene of the roll-over, it was discovered that the driver was 34-year-old David Durkee.

Durkee was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear and answer to the charge of: Vehicle Operated-License Suspended for DUI.

He was taken into custody for the warrant, and then transported to the Southern State Correctional Facility and held on $200 bail. 

Police Launch Investigation into Burglary in Randolph

The Vermont State Police-Royalton Barracks are investigating a burglary at a Randolph store.

According to a press release, troopers responded to the Middle Branch Market & Deli, on Route 14 in Randolph, to investigate a burglary that took place some time during the overnight hours of December 30th.

An initial investigation discovered that the suspect had entered through an unlocked bathroom window. They then stole approximately 20 packs of cigarettes before leaving through the same open window. Police state that the suspect did not leave any other signs of forced entry, and no other property damage was found.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing. 

Christmas Eve Car Theft Suspects Arrested

The two suspects who the Lebanon Police Department believe to have stolen a vehicle from Key Nissan have been apprehended.

According to the Lebanon PD’s press release, on Thursday, December 24th, two individuals stole a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder off the lot of Key Nissan. Security camera photos of the individuals were then circulated, as police sought the public’s assistance in identifying the man and woman pictured.

On Tuesday, December 29th, police located and arrested the suspects; 35-year-old Deanna Depalo and 46-year-old Jason Goforth, both of Rutland, Vermont. Depalo was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking, two counts of Burglary, and Criminal Mischief (Class A Misdemeanor). Goforth has been charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking, two counts of Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Contempt (the latter two both Class A Misdemeanors).

Both individuals were held on preventative detention and transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections to await arraignment. 

Police Looking for Home Invasion Suspect

The Vermont State Police are investigating a home invasion which occurred on Monday morning in Hartford.

According to WCAX, the incident happened at approximately 1:45 PM, inside a home on Christian Street. Police state that two men broke into the residence, shot one individual in the arm, and hit another with a metal pipe before fleeing the premises. Reportedly, the victims both suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Using a K-9, police were able to track down 33-year-old Anthony Cormier, who was then arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. At last update, authorities are still looking for Calvin Therrien, 40.

Police believe that this was an isolated incident, and state that all involved were familiar with each other. 

NY Man Caught Traveling 132 MPH in 65 MPH Zone

A New York man was arrested Monday in Warner on multiple charges after being caught traveling at double the speed limit, reports the New Hampshire State Police.

At approximately 10:30 PM on Monday, December 28th, 2020, a NH State Trooper observed a motor vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 89 through Warner at a high rate of speed. It was determined that the vehicle was traveling at 132 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. A second trooper responded to the area and was able to track down and pull over the vehicle.

An initial investigation of the vehicle yielded that the driver was 21-year-old Randher Alcantra-Bautista of Bronx, NY. Alcantra-Bautista was found to be driving the vehicle while impaired.

He was then arrested and charged with; Aggravated DUI-Drugs, Reckless Operation, Transporting Drugs in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a False Government ID. According to police, he refused all requested testing prior to being processed and released.

Alcantra-Bautista is now awaiting arraignment at the Hillsborough District Circuit Court.
