DHMC Receives $20,000 Grant

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has received a $20,000 grant to help stop pregnant smoking, reports WMUR.

The grant, given by the March of Dimes and the Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield Foundation, is set to enhance screening, intervention and treatment for tobacco use. According to Dartmouth, 10% of pregnant patients at the hospital smoke. This stat jumps to 90% among mothers being treated for opioid and substance abuse.

The hospital hopes this grant will help increase smoking cessation during pregnancy, thus reducing premature births.
