Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-91

Interstate 91 Southbound in Hartland, VT has been completely blocked by a motor vehicle accident, reports HereCast.

At approximately 11:27 AM, two tractor trailers and a car collided, blocking off the median.

A second accident, at 11:45 AM, was reported further up the highway as a third tractor trailer crashed into an ambulance. No emergency crew were injured, but the driver sustained injuries and was possibly entrapped.

At this time, there is no timetable for how long clean-up will take. Hartford, Hartland, and Windsor Fire Departments have been dispatched to the scene as well as Vermont State Police.

Man Arrested Going 30 MPH Over Speed Limit

A Claremont, NH man has been arrested for excessive speed in Bennington, VT, reports the Shaftsbury State Police Barracks.

At approximately 8:30 PM on Monday, November 18, 2019, state troopers recorded a vehicle traveling along VT Route 279 at 87 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Upon pulling the speeder over, it was discovered that the driver was 21-year-old Ifran Arif of Claremont. Arif was released and cited to appear in Bennington County Superior Court on December 30 at 8:15 AM.

He was also fined $489.

Jail Time for Repeat Sex Offender

A sex offender who faked a permission slip to become a volunteer will now serve jail time, reports HereCast.

38-year-old Daniel Conrad has multiple convictions on his record including sex acts with a nine-year-old, lewd acts with a 13-year-old and exposing himself to a child in NH. Conrad was convicted in June 2019 after it was discovered that he had made upwards of 70 visits to the Springfield, VT Humane Society with a forged “safety plan”. Essentially, a permission slip he claims was given to him by a therapist.

Although Conrad plead with judges to let him serve his sentence at home, he will remain in jail for three to five years while completing sex offender treatment.

Tuition Freeze Possible at UVM

The University of Vermont has announced a tuition freeze for only the second time in the last 40 years, reports WCAX.

The college, who’s in-state tuition is near $17K and over $41K for out-of-staters will not be raising tuition this year. Every year for five years, UVM has raised prices by three percent. The school will be passing up a profit of $8 million if the freeze is voted through by the Board of Trustees.

Board member Governor Phil Scott states he would welcome the freeze. He stated that “he welcomes attempts to make education more affordable.”

Two Men Wanted for Fraud in Claremont

The Claremont, NH Police Department have asked the public for assistance identifying to men on their Facebook page.

Reportedly, the two men were using an “illegal scanning device” at the Claremont Savings Bank on Broad Street. They then used the information they obtained to make multiple large cash withdrawals.

The police ask any Claremont Savings Bank member that notice any strange activity to call the bank of the station at 603-542-9538.

Sullivan County Fugitive of the Week

A Langdon, NH man is this week’s Sullivan County Fugitive of the Week.

23-year-old Cody D. Rowan is described as being six foot five inches, weighing approximately 265 pounds, and having brown hair with hazel eyes. Rowan’s original charge was Burglary, a Class B Felony. He is now wanted for Violation of Probation. On September 24, 2019, the NH Department of Corrections field a violation of probation report with the Sullivan County Superior Court alleging that Rowan had violated the terms of his release. A search warrant was put out for his arrest on October 9.

Hanover Man Arrested on Multiple Charges in Bow

A Hanover, NH man was arrested for reckless driving in Bow this morning, reports the NH State Police.

At approximately 8:30 AM, the NH State Police aircraft monitored a vehicle driving 106 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on I-93 in Bow. Officers on the ground caught up to the vehicle, which was being driven by Nathaniel Neroni, 32, of Hanover, NH. Upon investigation, it was found that Neroni had his operation and registration privileges suspended. He has been charged with Reckless Driving, Operating After Suspension or Revocation, and Operating with a Suspended Registration.

Neroni is scheduled to appear in Concord District Court on December 19, 2019 at 8 AM.

DHMC Receives $20,000 Grant

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has received a $20,000 grant to help stop pregnant smoking, reports WMUR.

The grant, given by the March of Dimes and the Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield Foundation, is set to enhance screening, intervention and treatment for tobacco use. According to Dartmouth, 10% of pregnant patients at the hospital smoke. This stat jumps to 90% among mothers being treated for opioid and substance abuse.

The hospital hopes this grant will help increase smoking cessation during pregnancy, thus reducing premature births.

Sobriety Housing Project Receives Additional Funds

According to a press release from Sullivan County Manager Derek Ferland, the county’s sobriety housing project is back on schedule.

According to Ferland, $800,000 in extra funds was sought based on a current construction budget. This led to the Board of Commissioners stepping back from the project on October 7th. Today, the funds were unanimously obtained from the Community Development Finance Authority Advisory Committee.

Ferland states that there is not currently a full design, but that he will be working with the project team to finalize the layout for the project at 19 Sullivan Street in Claremont, NH.
